Where Colorado’s high school football stars are heading in the class of 2022 as the second signing period begins – The Denver Post

The second signing period for the 2022 class of college football rookies began Wednesday, with a handful of former Colorado State draftees finding new homes with FCS credentials.

Among them were a pair of defensive standouts heading north, as Roosevelt High linebacker Cooper Walton and Arapahoe High defensive lineman Jareb Ramos both signed letters of intent with Montana out of the Big Sky conference.

Two other defensive stars, Fort Collins High safety Dontay Johnson and Lutheran High linebacker Bryce Johnson, have signed with the South Dakota State Conference from the Missouri Valley — the same Jackrabbits who beat CSU at Fort Collins last fall.

The four high schoolers were among a handful of athletes who committed to CSU before Jay Norvell was hired as head coach, only to have their scholarship offers withdrawn after they were deemed inappropriate.

In addition to the FCS-bound foursome, Highlands Ranch tight end Jade Arroyo recently committed to Brown out of the Ivy League after having his CSU scholarship offer withdrawn.

In total, more than a dozen of the state’s top prep football recruits have signed up to play for one of Colorado’s four FBS/FCS programs. That group is led by Fairview wide receiver Grant Page, the No. 4 rookie in the 247Sports.com composite-ranked state, who was a surprise addition by CU early in the December signing period.

State’s two four-star rookies — Valor running back Christian Gavin Sawchuk (Oklahoma) and Cherry Creek offensive lineman George Fitzpatrick (Ohio State) — signed with blue bloods from outside state in December. The last time one of Colorado’s schools managed to recruit the highest-rated senior in the state was when Pomona’s Jake Moretti signed up to CU in 2017.

Here’s a list of Colorado preps who have signed letters of intent to play for the FBS or FCS programs beginning Wednesday, as well as those who have announced commitments to the Air Force Academy:
