The St. George football game against Washington City is scheduled for Saturday

The City of St. George and the City of Washington will face off Saturday in a football game with local firefighters and police.

A Utah Tech University football player proposed a community event that would promote female athletes in football and provide fun competition for the public. UT student Deven Osborne spoke with City of St. George Mayor Michele Randall and City of Washington Mayor Kress Staheli about local entity involvement in a football camp in which he attends during the summer. Both were excited about the idea and helped Osborne plan the public game.

UT head football coach Paul Peterson will participate along with mayors and coaches. St. George Police Department Chief Kyle Whitehead and other public safety personnel will play on both teams, a Facebook post from the SGPD said.

“I thought it would be cool to end the summer with a big community event,” Osborne said. .

The initial idea was to have the firefighters play against the police or choose a way to split the teams, but Osborn said he moved to Washington and met Staheli, concluding that a city versus city format would be fun.

The game is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 23 at the Pine View High School football field. For more information, visit
