Scalby School’s ninth-grade girls’ soccer team crowned district champions

The first group match saw Scalby draw 0-0 with Ryedale.

It was a very tight game, the teams were very even with scoring opportunities on both sides.

Both goalkeepers did well to keep a clean sheet.

The Scalby girls opened their account with a 1-0 win over Lady Lumley’s School.

It was another hard-fought game, with strong performances from both teams.

The winning goal was scored by Scalby’s Ellie-Mae Bloomfield.

Scalby dominated their third and final group game against hosts Norton College B, claiming a 6-0 success.

Scalby’s side dominated from the kick-off with several players managing to find the back of the net, with captain Lil Scott playing very well.

Scalby headed into their semi-final against Caedmon full of confidence and that was reflected in their great team performance to claim a 1-0 win.

The Scalby girls then managed to pull off a 1-0 win over Norton in the final to take home the trophy.

Scalby manager Miss Trotter said: “Keeper Brooke Mason was under more pressure during this match than any other, however, she managed to maintain her clean sheet throughout the tournament.

“It was a fantastic effort from the whole team, which they should be proud of.”
