Micah Richards Faces Player Pranks

Sky in the UK has commissioned a hidden camera series in which former Manchester City and England defender Micah Richards pranks famous footballing personalities.

Player Pranks (4×30′) will be co-produced by independents Zig Zag and Krempelwood and will air on Sky Max and Sky Sports in August ahead of the 2022/23 Premier League season.

In each episode, Richards and his sidekick, Sky Sports colleague Adam “Smithy” Smith, take to the pitch with a slew of hidden cameras, props and comedic actors to wreak havoc in the lives of some of the the country’s most famous football personalities, when they least expect it.

Among the recipients are Sky Sports pundit and former professional footballer and manager Chris Kamara; England women’s star Jill Scott; Jamie Carragher, fellow Sky Sports pundit of Richards and former Liverpool defender; and former Tottenham Hotspur and England star Jermaine Jenas.

Player Pranks is the latest football-related show on Zig Zag’s list, which also includes The Next Jamie Vardy, The Football Show, Football’s Godfathers, Ultimate Goal and Football Academy for broadcasters such as Sky, History Channel, BT Sport and the BBC.

Krempelwood, meanwhile, was founded by Blair Krempel and Mark Wood in 2015 and has since fully financed and co-produced over 40 TV series in the UK.

Zig Zag CEO Danny Fenton said: “Bringing together the infectious Micah Richards in collaboration with Adam ‘Smithy’ Smith and a series of pranks played on footballing legends for Sky seems like the perfect entertainment combination.”

Barbara Lee, Editor at Sky, added: “We are huge fans of Micah Richards at Sky Max and are delighted to be working with him. He brings infectious fun to everything he does, so he’s perfectly cast as a mischievous prankster.
