NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Glenn Agre Bergman & Fuentes LLP, the bankruptcy and litigation law firm that launched in 2021, has taken a big step forward in its evolution with the addition of Kurt Mayer, most recently head of the bankruptcy practice at Morgan Lewis & Bockius, LLP. A nationally respected bankruptcy strategist whose inventive thinking has driven several pioneering restructurings, Mayr will both complement and enhance Glenn Agre’s existing strength in bankruptcy litigation.

“Kurt is a major figure in bankruptcy law whose presence should immediately elevate our stature in the field,” said Andrew GlenManaging Partner of Glenn Agre and Principal of the Firm Bankruptcy, restructuring and distressed debt practice. “His widely recognized skills as a transactional lawyer, not to mention a litigator, further broaden our capabilities and ideally position our firm for the next round of restructuring.”

Among many notable engagements, Mayr represented creditor groups in groundbreaking workouts at two Native American casinos, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. His thinking was very influential in maximizing recoveries for second-tier investors; likewise, his creativity helped break a years-long stalemate in the bankruptcy of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and made the bond group he represented one of the first to reach a settlement that created a model for new agreements.

“For years I have respected Andrew Glenn as a litigator and lawyer, and it has been inspiring to see the success of the business he has built,” said Mayr, who has represented groups of creditors alongside Glenn in multiple bankruptcy proceedings. “We already know how well our practices work together. I am delighted to now be working with Andrew from the inside out, freed from the conflicts present in large firms and fully focused on the goal of serving our clients.

With his arrival, Mayr becomes the second full-back addition to Glenn Agre in the past two months. In March, Stacy Tecklin joined the firm to lead its debt and distressed debt trading practice. “The firm’s knowledge of the secondary trading market, as well as its litigation capacity, is a great asset that my clients can draw on,” said Mayr.

“The same qualities that make Kurt a uniquely talented lawyer — his defiance of convention, his entrepreneurial spirit, his self-confidence — are the same qualities that brought him to Glenn Agre,” Glenn said. “We are lucky to have these qualities working for us now.”
