Hackers rule out visit of Deary, 5-0, in Friday football game | Pomeroy high school


POMEROY – The Pirates racked up 28 points in the first quarter, then took their foot off the gas to claim a 50-0 win over Deary here on Friday, September 10.

Trent Gwinn opened Pomeroy with a 16-yard run at 9:52 of the first quarter, followed by Colton Slaybaugh’s eight-yard run just over two minutes later to make it 14-0.

Gwinn added to that with a 10-yard touchdown run, then found Slaybaugh for 36 yards to make it 28-0 after Sid Bales’ 2-point conversion run.

In the second quarter, Gwinn took a punt from Kalab Rickard in his 20s and returned it to 80 yards for a touchdown. Gwinn then hit Trevin Kimble on the 2-point pass conversion.

Leading 36-0 in the third, Bales scored from five yards and Gwinn converted the run by 2 points.

Gwinn then hit Kimble for a 21-yard touchdown with 6:43 left to complete the scoring.

Pomeroy racked up 392 yards of attack, while the Pirates’ defense held Deary at 121 and forced two fumbles.

Deary only gained three rushing yards, while Pomeroy had 265 yards averaging 7.6 yards per carry.

Gwinn finished the night 5 for 5 passing for 119 yards and two touchdowns, with Bales throwing 1 for 1 for eight yards.

Rickard was 7 of 12 passing for 118 yards for Deary.

Gwinn also led the Pirates on the ground, gaining 93 yards on nine carries, Slaybaugh accumulating 62 yards on six carries and Bales for 57 yards on eight carries.

In defense, Braedyn White led Pomeroy with 7.5 tackles, five for a loss.

The Pirates, now 2-0, will then host Liberty Bell at 6 p.m. Friday.
