Dignitaries and ex-football stars ready to ‘walk with Kanu’

Nigerian top dignitaries and over 2,000 people are expected to take part in the “Abuja March with Kanu Nwankwo (Papilo) to Make Your Heart Beat” on World Heart Day on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 with the former star of Super Eagles and Arsenal in the lead.

The “Abuja Walk with Kanu Nwankwo” billed for Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, is part of Kanu’s efforts to educate people living with various heart conditions through his foundation, the Kanu Heart Foundation, KHF.

In 1996, after signing for Italian club Inter Milan, it was discovered that Kanu had a heart defect that needed surgery. Although the operation was a success, there were concerns that he would no longer play professional football. But Papilo made a full recovery and moved on to top-level football and won several laurels with top European clubs, including England’s Arsenal FC.

Kanu then established the Kanu Heart Foundation (KHF), a non-profit, non-governmental organization founded to help needy Nigerian children with heart disease get life-saving surgeries inside and outside Nigeria.
