Allow Nnamdi Kanu to watch football matches of his choice – Judge Nyako tells secret police, DSS

Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Department of State Services to always allow the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to watch football matches of his choice and at any time.

Kanu had told Judge Nyako on Wednesday that his favorite football club was English Premier League side Liverpool.

Judge Binta Nyako had jokingly asked Kanu, who is facing treason charges in court, which football team he supports, according to a report by News Agency of Nigeria.

She said she had always seen Kanu in the media, adorning the clothes of different football clubs different from the designer clothes he wore in court.

” What’s your team ? asked Nyako.

Kanu, who was in the dock, said: “My team has been Liverpool even since I was seven years old.”

The development came when Kanu’s attorney, Mike Ozekhome, SAN, complained that the State Security Services (SSS) failed to grant him and other attorneys enough time to meet the head of the IPOB whenever they visited him in detention.

The judge then reminded Ozekhome that he once thanked the SSS in open court for providing an orthopedic mattress, pillow and the like for his client.

She said she had already ordered the security team to give Kanu moderate treatment and care during his detention, such as food, clothes, health insurance, etc.

Then Nyako turned to Kanu and said that despite her order to change clothes, the IPOB leader continued to wear the same Fendi designer clothes.

The judge said that although Kanu, of her own free will, continued to come to court in the same attire, she saw him in the media wearing different clothes.

Nyako then asked Kanu if he was a fan of Chelsea Football Club relying on the designer clothes he wore in court.

The judge then told the legal director of the SSS who was in court to always allow Kanu to watch the matches of his favorite football club.

“You have to allow the defendant to watch the games every day they play,” she said, adding that she would make an order to that effect.

The SSS official, however, said his office always gave him access to television.
