Wrexham AFC along with the other big clubs across the border will be out of action this weekend as the best players head to the world on international assignments.

But football that needs its weekly dose of football should not despair.

This Saturday represents a great opportunity for Welsh football fans to get out there and enjoy the party football that North Wales has to offer.

Crowds in Welsh football have been steadily increasing year on year (aside from the lockdown) with fantastic football enjoyed across the region – and this weekend promises to be no exception.

Here are five key games you could watch this Saturday:

Connah’s Quay Nomads vs TNS (Cymru Premier. 12:45 pm, Deeside Stadium)

The Connahs Quay Nomads are the defending Cymru Premier champions, but TNS has odds on the favorites to take the title this season

This game may not have the same feeling as in previous seasons, with legendary Nomads boss Andy Morrison leaving the club and the New Saints enjoying a significant lead over their rivals.

However, it is a game that is still hotly contested and the Nomads will not want to give up their crown without a fight.

To add a little spice, new Nomads boss Craig Harrison has had several trophy-laden seasons at the Saints, so this will be a season to watch.

Porthmadog vs. Denbigh Town (Ardal NW. 2:30 p.m., Y Traeth)

A hotly contested game is expected at Y Traeth on Saturday as Ardal North West’s table tops Porthmadog take on second-placed Denbigh Town in front of what should be a large crowd.

Both of these clubs will be desperate to regain what many see as their rightful place in the second tier of Welsh football and this game will go a long way in deciding who it will be.

Players like Llanuwchllyn, Llanrwst Utd and Mold Alexandra may still be involved in the title race, but it is these two teams that will be many to be promoted.

Chirk AAA vs Cefn Albion (Ardal NE. 2:30 p.m., Holyhead Road)

In terms of local level 3 derbies, you don’t get much bigger than that. The Chirk AAA Pacesetters welcome their rivals Cefn Albion to Holyhead Road and there isn’t much between the two sides, neither geographically nor sportingly.

Both teams will have ambitions of securing promotion to the second tier this season and many believe these two will be neck and neck until the last day. A

lbion is known for its fans on the outside and with Chirk enjoying decent home support, an exceptional crowd is expected on the famous old pitch.

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 vs Kinmel Bay (NWCFL Premier Division East. 2:30 p.m., Belle Vue)

Another (very) local derby will take place on the historic Belle Vue de Rhyl pitch. Kinmel Bay makes the short trip across the Foryd Bridge to confront Gareth ‘Perry’ Thomas’ CPD Y Rhyl 1879 side.

The Lilywhites have been in good shape so far this campaign, but Bay is not a piece of cake and Rhyl won’t be able to take three points for granted if he is to catch up with league leader Prestatyn Sports.

Rhyl will enter this one as a favorite, but Bay will have huge motivation to create an upheaval in her close neighbors.

Llanerchymedd vs Llangoed and District (NWCFL Division One East. 2:30 p.m. Cae Tan Parc)

Llangoed and District – 2016/17 Lucas Oil Dargie Cup Winners

A Ynys Mon derby at Cae Tan Parc which could see the hosts extend their lead to the top of North Wales Coast League Division 1 (East).

With the Celts of Talysarn not in action, this is a great opportunity for Meirion Grieves’ men to break free.

Llangoed has had mixed results this campaign but beat title contenders Caergybi last time around so could be an interesting game.
