The 2022 Chattanooga Mocs football game at Illinois Fighting Illini has been moved to Thursday, Illinois announced.
The Chattanooga-Illinois game, originally scheduled for Saturday, September 24, will now be played on Thursday, September 22 at Memorial Stadium in Champaign, Illinois. The match will likely be nationally televised with exact plans to be revealed later this spring. .
“I’m thrilled that our players are experiencing another prime-time vibe at Memorial Stadium,” Illinois head coach Bret Bielema said. “This is a unique opportunity to add a Thursday night game to our schedule. The energy that our fans and Block I students will bring into the spotlight will create a great college football environment.
The 2022 Chattanooga-Illinois contest will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.
Chattanooga is Illinois’ third and final non-conference opponent of the 2022 season. The Fighting Illini open the 2022 season in week zero on Saturday, August 27 at home to the Wyoming Cowboys and also host the Virginia Cavaliers on Saturday, August 10. September.
Chattanooga, a member of the Southern Conference in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), is set to open its 2022 campaign on Saturday, September 3 with a non-conference home game at Finley Stadium against the Wofford Terriers.
The Mocs will then travel to face Eastern Illinois on September 10 and host Northern Alabama on September 17 before heading to Thursday night’s game at Fighting Illini.
